About

Hey there!

My name is Miguel. I’m an Aerospace Engineering student who’s very passionate about all things science, computers, and rockets.

Origin story

Mine is unfortunately not very full of interesting character development. I grew up in Santander (yes, that’s like the bank), a city in the north of Spain. I’ve been dabbling with computers for as long as I can remember, and would always mess around. This is because my dad had the brilliant idea of giving me his 2002 ThinkPad with with some obscure Linux distro that, for reasons still beyond me to this day, was in French. He doesn’t speak French. Neither did I.
I completed scientific high school while doing some projects on and off. I really liked Math and Physics olympiad exercises, and I went to a couple (without much success, I managed bronze in the regional phase but that wasn’t enough to get me into the nationals :( ). I took my university entrance exams, applied to TUDelft, and got in!

Rockets

I started my BSc in Aerospace Engineering at TUDelft, where I quickly joined Delft Aerospace Rocket Engineering and managed to successfully complete the SRP challenge for the first time in 4 years (that’s right Django, we were first).

After completing this project with no issues (except for that one camera that flew off the rocket because I taped the cover with a very weak adhesive tape), I joined the CanSat team, and Vulture, a team researching TVC (godspeed, you magnificient bastard). Then, in 2023 I briefly joined the core team of Stratos V as the CAD manager and integration engineer. Additionally, I brought back the Activities Committee in DARE and am currently chairing it (getting engineer types to get out of their rooms and go do something outside is quite a bit of a chore!)

TUDelft

I’ve worked for 2 years as a teaching assistant for the Engineering Drawing course, where we teach 1st year students on how to use 3DEXPERIENCE CATIA for their designs. I’ve really enjoyed this line of work, and I’ve learned a ton from it as well. I’ve also been working on a display model of the Flying V, which has given me some good insight on the challenges of the construction of a plane that’s so out of the ordinary. Finally, I’ve recently started working for the APPU project as a CAD engineer. I’m tasked with redesigning the empennage and tailcone of an A320 to retrofit a hydrogen tank, which has so far been a great challenge and a lot of fun! I’m getting the opportunity to test a lot of the more advanced features in CATIA 3DEXPERIENCE, such as EKL scripting.

Personal Interests

I’m very passionate about computers and fixing stuff. I’ve been running Linux to do basically all my computing (except for CATIA, unfortunately), since 2021. I also like going for cool walks, reading, playing the drums, and cool rocks. A very cool pic of me reading on top of a rock
